Mixing Affiliate Marketing With Blogging

Written by Business Maker on November 13th, 2010

As a blogger your primary focus should be community building within your niche. The problem is as your community grows the income generated by your blog will not unless you take certain steps to make sure your blog will be able to make money online. The two most common forms of income generation from a blog are PPC and affiliate marketing. You can do either of these to generate an income from your blog and both of these people have made millions from. Personally I prefer affiliate marketing because you have 100% control over what websites you are marketing and can chose websites, services, or products that are truly helpful to your readers and will not run them off. If you chose to go with a PPC network such as Google adsense then you are giving up control and letting Google pick whatever websites they think are closely related.

To make money from affiliate marketing the most important thing is having a consistent source of traffic. The best traffic usually comes from Google since it is highly targeted towards your niche and even more specifically the keywords on your website. This means if you create a blog about buying a fishing pole and someone comes from Google because they searched for “buy a fishing pole” they will be much more prone to buy a fishing pole from your website rather than someone just surfing the web and finding your link on one of your link partner’s website. If you want to rank well in Google then you will need to start learning about seo content creation and link building. These are the two things that will determine the placement of your blog so take time to discover them both.

Once you have the traffic flowing from Google or another source of your choice it is time to find products which match the needs of your readers and traffic. In most cases you will be able to find affiliate programs in the niche that you created your blog in. For example I created a blog about making money online so I market programs which help people make money online. If you have searched and searched for a niche specific affiliate program, but are unable to find one then you should try an affiliate program which has products in every single niche. The two most common affiliate programs are amazon associates and clickbank.com. Amazon has millions of real world products so finding one to sale on your blog that is closely related to your topic should not be too difficult. Clickbank.com has thousands of products in almost every niche and the reason I really like Click Bank is all the products are digital. This means that rather than selling real products you are selling such things as software and ebooks.

One important thing to remember when you are trying to make a living with affiliate marketing is you need a lot of traffic before you succeed. Do not get disappointed when you only get a couple hundred hits a month for the first few months this is very normal for a new website. For my websites I did not see the full potential until they had been on the web for about a year. Keep working making sure not to let the lack of traffic deter your inspiration to create.
