If it is terracotta or wood wash your article in the first place and check that it is dry before you go on. Initially you will need to gather your cut outs and then shift them all-around to structure your composition. Your next step is to use a somewhat darker color of paint to cover your article, both inside as well as out. On the other hand, before this in fact dries, use a piece of kitchen roll to get the paint off, enabling your cut outs to gleam through. Leave overnight!

The next day you can make use of your polyurethane once more to put on yet a further coat over the whole of your selected piece.
