How To Find The Right Space To Get The Most Out Of Your Work From Home Business

Written by Author on July 21st, 2009

I have found from talking with other entrepreneurs that it’s difficult to get the balance between a home life and work life. Of course the advantages of having no commute, no travel costs and a more acceptable wake up time mean that more and more people are turning to a work from home job . If though you have children then your time needs to be managed a lot more stringently. Especially at these times when the kids are on holiday and are needing to be entertained 24/7, it makes for a very juggling act.

If you do have kids then you might be hampered to organize a space into form of an office but you should try, where possible, to organize a room that can be separate from the rest of the house that you can have some peace and quiet to do your work. If you live in a flat then you would need to try to do something simple such as sit down at the dining table instead of that inviting couch. Although it is next to impossible to have the living room with all its distractions to enjoy as your office for a work at home business, it is something that will take great discipline.

I do love to be able to work from home though as I love the elasticity of being able to spend time cooking in the kitchen with a laptop on the kitchen side, updating my tweets, blogs and facebook. However there are definitely times when you will find that you are not in complete control of your work life balance as it will spill over into your private life and probably when you least wish it to as well.

A way to counter this is to perhaps have a work area in your bedroom, so just by having a phone and laptop on your bedside table allows you to be able to get some work done before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. Also as I did when I first started I worked from my dining room table, well in all honesty it was a dining room table but it was also in my kitchen as well as the living room, so even when it gets a little bit cramped you need to do the best you can. Of course the ideal situation is to have the separate room where you won’t be disturbed and have peace and quiet. I found that having a space is one of the most important aspects of starting a work at home business.

As I said on occasions I like to work from my kitchen, sometimes from my bedroom but it comes down to you to find the right solution for yourself so that you can get the most of your time. Good luck with finding the right work place for you and with your home based business.
