Affiliate Marketing Mistakes

Written by Author on July 31st, 2009

Affiliate marketing is growing at an insane rate on the internet. Everyday tons of people are trying to make money by marketing other people’s products. There is nothing wrong with this, because this is right now the best way to make money and work from home. There are thousands of products that one can make money with in all kinds of niches, but there isn’t that much information out there on the mistakes that can kill your sales as an affiliate marketer.

The biggest mistake that I see day after day, and one that I have made and still do on some of my websites is masking your affiliate link. People surfing the web and buying products are a lot wiser to affiliate links then they once were. It is proven over and over that if you customer or visitor knows that there is an affiliate link behind the product you are pushing then they will not click on it. Masking your affiliate links can increase your working from home sales 10 fold. No one knows why people hate affiliate marketers. It just seems that when a person can tell that it is an affiliate link, it some how makes the product less valuable because they think they are being scammed. Probably because some affiliate marketers have pushed terrible products to a mass amount of people giving affiliate marketers a bad reputation, and giving affiliate marketers the stereo type of being scammers.

There are several ways to mask your affiliate links to increase sales. If you search on Google hard you will find several scripts out there that will mask the affiliate link when someone’s mouse hovers over the link. This is the system I use. This works best for your websites. If you are trying to mask emails then you can use a redirect off of your website.

Once the link is clicked and the visitor is sent or redirected, there will be a period where the person can see the affiliate link in the new window. This is why it is very important to find affiliate products with pages that load very quickly. CPA Networks have some of the best, highest paying products, but some of these pages load very, very slow. It doesn’t matter how good the CPA offer is, your sales will suffer if the landing page loads slow or is redirected another 3 times by the CPA network. You would be better off offering a Clickbank product that’s landing page loads quickly. Like I said the person that clicks the link will be able to see the affiliate part of the link in the new window, and this is why you need the page to load extremely fast or you will lose the customer.

There are tons of places out there that will mask you affiliate links for you. Some are free and some charge you quite a bit of money. Some of the places that are free have been used so much that people know that it is used to mask links. I would personally stay away from free and paid masking services and sites. The reason behind my prejudice is it is extremely hard to know if these places are cookie stuffing you. Cookie stuffing is where they put their affiliate code in place of yours without you knowing it. You see all these paid and free places are redirecting the visitors through their sites. It would be very easy to cookie stuff doing this and it is the reason why some of these services exist online. They won’t stuff all of your visitors because this would send a flag, but they will stuff some costing you money. I promise this happens more than you want to know.

So what you need to do if you are affiliate marketing is to learn how to mask your affiliate links when someone’s mouse hovers over the link and how to redirect from your website for emails and other places. You can find all this information by searching Google and forums. I know this because this is where I found it. You know now why I won’t use masking services and why you should be very careful if you do use them, and you understand that if you’re not masking you affiliate links, then you are losing money. I hope you enjoyed this article.
