The phrase all encompassing can have relative and universal meaning. The appeal of video to multiple senses, is only one application of the phrase “all encompassing effect.” Similar phrases are found in use in many different applications in advertising and in literature. The all encompassing effect of video in general applies to the five senses. In truth, the term is more relative, in that it means video is all-encompassing compared to photography or music. Since video is closer to nature, as a multi modal media, it makes sense that it should be a more effective form of communication. Videographers are communicating the same message in at least four ways, the sound, the narration, the imagery and the captions. Like the old adage 4 heads are better than one, four types of simultaneous communication are better than one.

Now consider the progress that is being made in trade show advertising. The conventioneer passes by a booth and is charmed by a multimodal video, made by experts who are constantly asking the question, what will attract attention to our videos. And the effects at times are really impressive, as they do succeed every day in drawing people off the trade show floor and into the booth.
