Dust Control Might Be Aiding In Global Warming

Written by Author on January 30th, 2010

As we come into another decade we are faced with the question of how to influence worldwide warming. We must assess all aspects of global warming and decide what we can do to avoid the change. Not to long ago I overheard an important person that I well respect chatting about the need for dust control and talked about elevated levels of dust pollution that people are creating. So I sought to study this possibility from a historical perspective.

When we look at the levels of dust emissions within today’s atmosphere, we gauge this in terms of particulate matter, commonly abridged to simply PM. Particulates are microscopic subdivisions of hard matter suspended in the atmosphere. If you could picture the smallest dust might have began as a large bolder. This dust ultimately reaches an elevated level in our atmosphere at which point it creates a layer of dust insulation. Might it be that our lack of dust control has increased the levels of dust in the air to the point that it has caused an increase in the earth’s warmth?

when we look way back in times past it is simple to realize that humans had a lesser influence on the environment with a lesser populace. There were less cars, building sites, roads and all together less activity to create fugitive dust. There was not as much agricultural or tilling of the top soil but as the population increased the needs of man followed and thus did the dust.

We look back at these events and realize man has undeniably amplified the levels of dust pollution due to their actions. But we must also realize that man has as well aided in decreased levels of dust out of innovation.

In the former a lot of the roads that we traveled were made from the most accessible matter in the general vicinity. It was not exceptional to find a stretch of road consisting of only loam. The roads are still widespread now but today we make use of environmentally dependable products to lower the dust created whilst driving on these roads.

In the past there were usual grassland and forest fires that created particulate matter from the burning plants, brush and grass. Not only would the dust levels rise from the scorched plants, but the recently burnt terrain would now with no trouble release dust particles into the surroundings with a minimal change in the winds. Lots of of the fires began from a solitary well positioned lightning strike in an depopulated area. These fires were left to burn due to the lack of means to combat such fires and sometimes the lack of public to report it. Today these fires are immediately attacked and brought under control.

These improvements can only be accredited to the innovation of man and have in fact lowered the levels of dust the air. In countless places road dust control has enhanced the roads to the point that one can almost not tell if the road is concrete or earth.

After taking into account the likelihood that man made dust is aiding in climate change i have arrived at the conclusion that if anything, man has helped lower the levels of dust not amplified it. I hope this clears the air on this subject. I guess we will just have to attribute climate change to sun spots.
