Creating The Perfect Business Niche For You
Written by Author on February 2nd, 2010The thought process of starting a businessof any kind begins with the question of “WHAT?”. What do you know a lot about, like to talk about and simply love: or have great interest in? Chances are that someone else or even thousands of other people feel the same. When you have pin pointed this “WHAT” then you will have also located your SUBJECT. This is exactly what your website should be about. It could be dogs, cats, the moon, food, cars etc. Some may ask, how is a website about movies or lipstick going to make me money? My answer is; any subject has the potential to make money depending on how passionate one is towards it.
Now lets talk about knowledge. The subject that you choose should be a subject that you are well informed about. You should be more informed on your subject than you’re your potential audience. For example: a teacher cannot teach a student if he or she doesn’t know more about what they are teaching than the student. You want to be recognized as an expert on your subject so that your readers feel there is something to gain from your content. Your audience will want to find something fresh and new on your website whenever they visit it. That means your content will need to be updated often. Some websites update their content monthly, biweekly, weekly, daily and sometimes even two or three times a day. This means that it is very important that your subject will have enough content to compete. Sometimes just having enough content isn’t always sufficient. Many websites compete strongly with specializing in a particular category of a subject. For example; you can have a site that is all about dogs or you can have a site that specializes in dog collars or dog fitness.
Research your subject by looking at your competitors websites and getting a feel for what their visitors want and need. Once you have a good idea of what your audience has with your competitors then its time to start thinking about what you can offer that your competitors don’t.
The more things you can offer your audience than your competitors, the better the chance they are to visit your site more frequently.
I have learned through life that if you want to get something, you will have to give something. That brings me to the next subject of website content:. What is content? I define it as the material a visitor or potential customer is looking for on the web. When building an internet business most tend to concentrate on the money they will make. While that is the main focus of any business, one must realize that work must be done before pay can be received in most cases. Just think about working a job. Does the boss pay you before you´ve done any work? I´ve worked jobs for a week or even a month before I ever saw my first pay check. The same concept works here. You have to CONCENTRATE ON GIVING visitors what they are looking for and building trust with them on your site before they will consider giving you money for a product or service. This process begins with the quality of the content you offer on your site.
Through research I have acquired this acronym to give you some guidelines for good quality content: ( H.E.A.R.T.) all of your content should be honest, exclusive, accurate, relevant and timely. Make sure you don´t rule out creating different types of content iether. For example; interviews, questions and answers, product reviews, how – to articles, etc. Keeping a well-balanced mixture of content will keep the work more interesting for you and your site more interesting to visitors. Also don’t forget what the internet has to offer over newspaper and magazine media, which can only offer written content and photographs. A modern website can now add audio and video to its list of advantages.
Visitors will want to find something fresh and new whenever they log on to your site and that means constant content updating. Many website owners fail to succeed in their internet business because they don´t know how to provide enough content to compete
