7 Winning Tips For Success

Written by Business Maker on July 4th, 2010

We all like to be successful. Whether it’s playing a game of golf, starting your own business or working for an employer, we all want to be as successful as possible.

Luckily, the factors that contribute toward success aren’t secret, they are well known and understood. Here I’ve summarised the top 7 that apply to many successful entrepreneurs, sports people and celebrities.

1. Do what you love doing. This is obvious really. If you love what you are doing then its not a chore, its a pleasure. The trick is to find out what really motivates you and keep doing it. My personal goal was to become a freelance web designer but I’ve worked with others for whom internet marketing was their passion.
2. Exercise patience and discipline. Most really successful people have the ability to see the ‘bigger picture’. Discipline is essential if you are to keep going when faced with setbacks.
3. Clearly define those all-important goals. Whatever it is that you want to achieve, write it down and regularly remind yourself of your goals. Defining this will enable you to plot a course that will lead to your achieving this aim.
4. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Fear of failure, or something else (e.g. ridicule, expense, pain, embarassment) will often cause procrastination. Rather than risk failing we’d rather avoid doing what we need to do. This inclination needs to be overcome.
5. Don’t procrastinate. Procrastination is often prompted by taxing or unpleasant tasks. Breaking things down into smaller, bite sized chunks can help overcome disinclinations.
6. Take responsibility. Success is in your hands and is totally achievable. At the time I knew very little. So I decided that the best course of action would be to work for a web design agency, which I did for seven years. For the past three I’ve been working as a freelance web designer.
7. Draft an action plan. Your action list should be things that are realistic, easily measured and attainable. For example, in the action plan that I drafted for myself I listed all of the skills and experiences that I wanted to gain while employed and I ticked these off, almost daily.

Following this advice will not guarantee success, but it will make a significant and positive contribution.
BTW – Search Engine Optimisation is a growing industry that you may want to consider.
