I find it so amazing how many people start a network marketing business with unrealistic expectations. Each week I talk to people who want me to point them to some magical shortcut or easy button that is going to allow them to circumvent the work of building their business. These individuals don’t want to make any sort of investment into their business, be it time or money; yet, they somehow think they are going to achieve great levels of financial success in this very same business.

There is a gut check that should be done by anyone considering entering into a netowrk marketing business. A person will never achieve success in this industry without the existence of three key ingredients. These ingredients are a dream, commitment and desire.

Let me start with the dream. Your dream is often referred to as your “why.” It is the reason why you are considering newtork marketing in the first place. Your reason for entering this business could be as simple as debt reduction or as complex as philanthropic work. Your why sets the desired outcome of your business. It is this overall reason that directs all of your businees building activities and efforts. Without this guiding dream you will lack focus, wandering around aimlessly with no clear direction. Your dream identifies where you are going and gives purpose to your day to day efforts.

Commitment is required to keep the dream alive. Without commitment is much too easy to give up and quit. Commitment allows no room for compromise, pushing you forward until such time as your goals are obtained. Because of the commitment you have made to yourself, there is no obstacle that will cause you to retreat from the pursuit of your goal. When things get difficult, you will simply choose to dig in and push forward that much harder, but quitting is never an option under any circumstance.

The final ingredient is desire. Drive puts feet to your commitment. Desire becomes the internal drive that leads a person to do the work necessary to fufill their commitment, no matter how long that may take. A person with drive will find as many productive uses for their time as possible, while a person without drive will find as many non-productive excuses for that same amount of time. It is this same quality that will cause you to spend the time in webinars and MLM training sessions learning new skills that will make your time more effective and productive.

In the end, you have to remember that this is YOUR MLM business. In the end it will be YOUR dream, commitment and drive that determine whether or not your succeed or fail.
